As noted on this site previously colour wing-tags were put on Black-tailed Gulls Larus crassirostris at two Japanese breeding colonies in 2001 and 2002 as follows:
Rishiri Island : Light Blue
Teuri Island: Red

The map below shows the recoveries/sightings made to date: triangles = Red flags, and circles = Blue flags.
Birds Korea has often urged birders/researchers to contribute data to the various flagging/banding studies that are maintained throughout the region.
The following short note provides a brief example of how simple and relatively informal such a submission can be.
In the case of this particular study, please use the following email addresses (if birders would find it easier to pass the information on to us first we will of course be happy to forward it onto the relevant researchers on your behalf):
kamome@hokkaido-ies.go.jp

"Dear Researchers,
In relation to the Black-tailed Gull flagging project, I would like to inform you that on March 8th and 9th, 2003, on the southeast coast of South Korea, between the town of Guryongpo and Daebo (east of the city of Pohang),
I recorded at least 8 red wing-tagged and 1 blue wing-tagged adult Black-tailed Gulls (5 of which were in the same group of ca 300 BTGs). I could not see the numbers on the wingflags adequately on any of the birds, despite seeing some of them very closely.
Nial Moores".
